Bet On Milos Raonic Winning The Rogers Cup?

It’s been quite the ride in Toronto at the Rogers Cup men’s singles as the tournament has been packed with excitement, anticipation, thrills, and upsets.  Three of the top four seeds, including betting favourite Novak Djokovic were upset in the third round qualifiers, leaving only number two seed Roger Federer among the elites left on the court.

That definitely improves the odds and the confidence of Canada’s own star Milos Raonic, who qualified for the quarterfinals yesterday.  Unlike many of his top ranked rivals, Raonic avoided an upset loss by pulling out a thrilling win in a three set match scoring 6-3, 4-6, and 6-4 over Julien Benneteau to reach the quarters.

Raonic is set to face Feliciano Lopez in the quarterfinals, setting the stage for a very personal run towards the finals for the Canadian.  Raonic and Lopez formed a good friendship in 2010 when they trained together in Spain during Raonic’s early professional career.

If Raonic can best his friend in the quarters, he will qualify for the semifinals.  The odds certainly favour Raonic serving up against Federer in the semis should both men reach the next round.

That match would be a great rematch between the two rivals, allowing Raonic the chance to bet on a revenge victory.  The two stars faced each other in the semifinals at Wimbledon last month where Federer ended the Canadian’s run towards a Grand Slam trophy – before he too was knocked out by Djokovic in the championship match.

If Raonic can pull out a win against both Lopez and Federer to reach the Rogers Cup Finals, it would certainly boost his confidence on the road to the US Open – the last Grand Slam tennis match of the season.
